Book of Ahuramazda's Heroes and martyrs.

Freedom, liberation, independence of our noble nation, we died,

Restore it’s honour, dignity, esteem, faith, fame, glory, we tried.

Our enemies, perversely, honoured, on the land, our blood dried,

Our existence disbelieved, disproved, disputed, declined, denied.

Our deeds’re unknown, unmentioned, unacknowledged, unsaid,

Our story unvoiced, untold, unheard, unwritten, unsung, unread.

Sacrifice we made, ungrieved, unwept, unmourned, unlamented,

Legacy, that’s uncelebrated, unfamed, unacclaimed, uncounted.

We’re, disowned, disinherited, dispossessed, outcast, faceless,

Unrecalled, unrevealed, unrenowned, unrecognized, nameless.

in, world, deceitful, perfidious, treacherous, heartless, soulless,

We were pure, untarnished, untainted, unblemished, blameless.

Unsoiled, undebased, righteous, virtuous, scrupulous, guileless,

Martyrs to a cause, belief, faith, gospel, that was lost, hopeless.

Arsam, fearless son of Darius, martyr of Thermopylae

Shinning armour, charge Greeks, Arsam wouldn’t refrain,

Face revealed no fear, trepidation, only contempt, disdain.

Though Spartans surrounded him it seemed futile, in vain,

His flashing sword, they could barely see, far less contain.

His feet, in heaps lay Spartans, he had slaughtered, slain,

Fearfully, timidly, stood back, showered arrows, like rain.

He pulled arrow from his eye, oblivious, unmindful to pain,

Then, sword was thrust through the other eye in his brain.

Angel of death itself watched with awe, reverence, refrain,

Few fearless, heroic, Arsam, Darius’ son were born again.

Persian princes don’t mask faces, with visor open remain,

Identity to all, even death reveal, tearful Xerxes’d explain.

Unrenowned, unhailed, unacclaimed, unfamed, unknown,

Persian heroes unsung, unhonoured, unglorified, remain.

Arsam was a younger son of Emperor Darius and half brother of Xerxes. his couarage and fearlessness were known to the Spartans, who knew he had to be slain for them to achieve victory at thermopylae. arsam would not drop the visor of his helmet as he wanted the enemy to be able to see him. his swordsmanship was legendary. the greeks killed him by shooting arrows into one eye and then a sword through the other. his name is mentioned only as a casualty of the battle but mention of his valour has been purposely and intentionally excluded to deny him his rightful and merited place in the annals of history .

Aryobarzan was born in 368 B.C and appointed the Satrap of Fars province in 335 B.C. He fought against Alexander at the ill fated Battle of Gaugamela.

After Darius Artashita fled, he was left to guard the capital Takht-e-Jamshid. He along with his sister Youtab, the unique / resplendent held off the Greeks at a pass in the mountains/ Tang-e-Meyran for forty days till a traitor brought the Greeks behind them. Aryobarzan and Youtab were both killed in the last charge at the Greeks on January 20th 330 B.C .

Their bodies were taken by villagers to the Dakhmeh-Sangi .

Their remains and sacrifice remain clothed in obscurity and anonymity, unrecognized and unsung by bigoted, prejudiced and partisan history, written by the victors.

Tang-e-Meyran, where Aryobarzan and his sister Youtab held off Alexander for forty days

All heroes, martyrs, champions, Ahuramazda served

He will bestow prestige, eminence, nobility deserved

Ballad of Youtab, the resplendent and Aryobarzan,  glory of the Aryans.

The cowardly, gutless Darius from Gaugamela flew,

No army stood, way to Persepolis Alexander knew,  Confidence, morale as they marched forwards grew,

Lured by gold, to Persepolis victorious Greeks drew,

Ariobarzan, his sister, Youtab, to his regiment drew,

Tang-e-Meyran,  narrow pass, Satrap of Fars knew,  Rocks from mountain pass at Greek phalanx threw, Alexander leaving dead behind, shamefully withdrew,

Forty days repulsed, repelled Greeks, the snow blew, Treacherous shepherd, a way behind Persians knew,

Greeks emerged behind the Persians, the Sun grew,

Time for last decisive battle was nigh, Persians knew,

Cause hopeless, irretrievable, irrecoverable, all knew,   Courageous, undaunted, valiant, though, number few,   Alexander claimed, kingship after craven Darius flew,

He’d spare their lives, their weapons on ground threw,

In the final charge, assault, Ariobarzan,Youtab threw,

All lay martyred, slain, the fateful day to a close drew,  Grieving villagers took to dakhmeh as they withdrew,   Nation was lost, no-one, their valour, gallantry knew,

Whose bones lay, the Dakhmeh-sangi, no-one knew. Centuries ago, who bled, died, when the snows blew,   Victor’s histories their names from mention withdrew,

No pilgrims to honour, glorify, acclaim, martyrs drew.

POEM AT THE STATUE OF ARyOBARZAN AT BOSHT

Aryobarzan (glory of Aryans), his valiant sister, Youtab( unique)

With the name of the God of the world and wisdom

Statue commemorates fearlessness, bravery, gallantry, courage,

Aryobarzan of Kohkillaye Bohramadi in Darius the third’s age.

Gave his blood, block fall, Iran’s capital, Takht-e-Jmashid, hands,

Of Alexander of Macedon, his memory lives forever, these lands.

Iran, because of you is glorious, luminous, glittering, resplendent,

Aryobarzan’s name before all honoured, great, glorious, eminent.

Like God of war, weapons, swords, mace, manoeuvred, wielded,

Alexander’s men scattered, bounded, your skill, courage, yielded.

Alexander astounded by your deeds, could not grapple, contend,

You fulfilled all aims you would desire, want, contemplate, intend.

The race of Lors, you brought honour, distinction, prestige, fame,

World itself is brilliant, dazzling, aglow, due to your ideals, name.

This lionheart, fearless, intrepid warrior, called father of the Lors,

Proud of noble, gifted, skillful, proficient, adept, adroit man, Lors.

From him, alive perpetually, eternally, unceasingly, name of Iran,

Scattered, retreated, took flight, fled, soldiers of enemies of Iran.

For thirty days, Aryobarzan, his sister, Youtab, held Meyran pass,

Till Alexander, behind Iranian lines by traitor’s help would pass.

Some Persians with bare hands, in a final charge, their lives lost,

Takht-e-Jamshid, its fair name, glory, palaces, treasury were lost.

Dakhmeh-i-Sangi, resting place of Ariobarzan and Youtab

No-one, even in this obscure village, remembers our name,

No schoolboy is called, summoned by Aryobarzan’s name.

No scampering girl with pigtails answers to Youtab’s name,

Our sacrifice less than Hector, Leonidas’, have such fame?

Wealth, opulence, treasures, land are the victor’s preserve,

Vanquished, defeated, martyrs, who selflessly bleed, serve.

Do we not even honour, repute, dignity, adulation, deserve?

Ballad, poem, song our memory, commemorate, conserve?

Our bloodied mangled corpses, they came curiously to look,

But they really killed us when they re-wrote the history book.

Memory of our courage, valour, gallantry, disowned, forsook,

Make a pilgrimage, see who rests forever in this far-off nook.

Comment: Ariobarzan and his sister Youtab were great patriots, who fought to preserve the honour of Iran. They gave their lives knowing fully well that the cause was lost. Unfortunately few know their name, which is deliberately, knowingly, consciously not mentioned in the history books written by the victors.

Turn the flank Mazdai! ( Battle of Gaugamela. (October 331 B.C)

Incumbent on us, names of Kurush, Daryush, preserve,

Imposed indignity of disgraceful rout, we didn’t deserve.

Indian elephants, no-one guard, after King’s capitulation,

Intrepid immortals decimated not by wounds, humiliation.

Face inconsolable kin of our dead, in contrition we dread,

Mazdai! Redeem esteem, honour, this army of living dead.

Let not multitude martyrs of today, in vain have perished,

Write your name in history book, gold letters embellished.

Glory of a nation is inviolable, not of a contemptible man,

Turn the flank Mazdai! Lead in place, of coward who ran.

satrap MAZDAI WAS the GENERAL WHO COMMANDED THE SCYTHIAN CHARIOTS ON THE RIGHT FLANK OF THE PERSIAN ARMY AT GAUGAMELA HE PUSHED THE LEFT FLANK OF THE GREEK general parmenio RIGHT BACK TO REACH THE TENTS OF THE MOTHER AND SISTERS OF DARIUS, WHO HAD BEEN CAPTURED BY ALEXANDER. IF HE then TURNED LEFT, the only logical course, HE WOULD HAVE ENCIRCLED ALEXANDER BUT WHEN NEWS OF FLIGHT OF DARIUS CAME, HE LEFT THE BATTLEFIELD IN DISGUST TO RETURN TO BABYLON.

THE TOMB OF PIROUZ-E-NAHAVANDI AT KASHAN

 The story of Pirouz-e-Nahavandi.

After unspeakable, disaster of Qadiseyeh, Pirouz, was dismayed,

Unscrupulous, greedy, Mughira’s slave, woefully, Basra, stayed.

Army officer, reduced to stonemason’s, ignoble, unmanly, trade,

Unrelenting, quest for retribution, vengeance, outwardly, staid.

Paying avaricious, greedy, Mughira 2 dirhams a day, dissented,

Possessed varied, diverse, skills, as Khalifa’s servant, appointed.

Pirouz ordered to construct a stone mill, for grinding of grain,

Paid,“I will make you a stone, that till eternity, shall remain.”

Heads, lined, tiny, enslaved Iranian children, Pirouz stroked, wept,

Under stone mill, camouflaged tunnel dug, Roman blade in it kept.

Pirouz, resolutely, in his dress, concealed the double edged blade,

Stabbed his abdomen, unsuspecting, unwary, Khalifa, he, waylaid.

Assaulting six others, he fled the scene, now pursued, a renegade,

As riders milled around, quietly lay till sunset, a sand dunes’ shade.

Slowly, cautiously, exhausting way, home, to Chehl hisar, he made,

Seven years, unobtrusively, undetected, hidden, with family, stayed.

Found by Obaidullah, with his wife, daughter, Morwarid’s lives paid,

In this tomb, Kashan, to rest, Pirouz is believed, to have been laid.

pirouz-e- nahavandi, born in 600 A.D was a Persian army officer, who waS captured by the tazian at the disastrous battle of Qadiseyeh in 636.a.d. sold as a slave to mughira, mayor of basra, he had to work as a carpenter and pay mughira 2 dirhams tax a day. when he protested, he was sold again to khalifa umar and went to work at madina. he was heartbroken, anguished to see little persian children sold as slaves and resolved to take vengeance. when the khalifa asked him to make a stone for a mill, pirouz quietly and meaningfully replied he would make him a unique, matchless stone (tombstone) when the khalifa led the morning prayer on 3rd november 644A.D, PIROUZ STABBED HIM WITH A SPECIAL DOUBLE EDGED ROMAN DAGGER. HE HID IN THE SHADE OF SAND DUNES AND MADE HIS WAY BACK TO KASHAN, WHERE HE LIVED QUIETLY FOR 7 YEARS UNTIL DISCOVERED BY OBAIDULLAH

Vehzadan-pur-i-Vandad Hormozd/Abu Moslem (718-755)

VEHZADAN POUR VANDAD HORMOZD /ABU MOSLEM WAS BORN IN 718/9 A.D IN KHORASAN, LAND OF THE HEROES. HE GREW UP AS A SLAVE IN KUFA, WHEN THE FANATICAL, CRUEL UMMAYADS RULED IRAN FROM DAMASCUS. THEY IMPOSED TAXES ON THE SUFFERING PEOPLE EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF A FAMINE.HIS RESISTANCE LED TO HIS INCARCERATION IN PRISON, WHERE HE CAME IN CONTACT WITH IBRAHIM IBN MUHAMMAD THE MAHDI OF THE ABBASID CLAN, WHO HAD HIM RELEASED FROM PRISON. HE TOOK UP ARMS FOR THE ABBASIDS, CAPTURING MERV IN 747. HE BECAME THE COMMANDER OF THE ABBASIDS, DEFEATING THE UMMAYAD KHALIFA MARWAN AT THE BATTLE OF ZAB IN 750 A.D.

Century of heartbreak, grief, anguish, followed by rapture,

In Khorasan, land of heroes, born, a man of such stature,

Whose life, times, marked, pleasant, gratifying departure,

He could appoint the Khalifa, his uncle, Abdullah, capture.

In devastating famine, tax, Khalifa, unfairly, demanded,

None was to be paid, Vehzadan audaciously, commanded.

Khorasan, in upheaval, rebellion, civil wars, embroiled,

For brutal Tazian regime, resentment, revulsion, boiled.

Vehzadan’s army in black, determined, free, land, soiled,

Tazian disunity, dissension, defiance to Vehzadan, foiled.

Merv,  Khorasan, from Tazian, Vehzadan wrested, pried.

Battle of Zab, Nahavand, broke, Khalifa Marwan’s pride.

Abu Abbas Saffah, the Khalifa, at Baghdad, he, crowned,

Saffah’s brother Mansour, Vehzadan’s prowess, frowned.

Century’s chains of humiliation, ignominy, slavery, broken,

Farsi language without fear, apprehension, freely, spoken.

Fires lit in Ateshkadeh, were derelict, deserted, broken,

Ahura’s prayers, fearlessly, unreservedly, again spoken.

Scheming Mansour, conspiracy, Vehzadan’s death brew,

His palace, craftily invited, Vehzadan, companions few,

Craftily said,“Is it Abdullah’s sword?,” Mansour knew.
Took, placed under prayer mat, sword, Vehzadan drew.

Unarmed Vehzadan, unjust, ignoble accusations, threw,
Reminded, of his debt of honour, Mansour’s rage grew.

Vehzadan undoubtedly enthroned Abbasids, both, knew.
Deceitfully, disdainfully called, guards, Vehzadan slew.

Callously, dishonourably, mutilated body, Tigris threw.

His prestigE, repute, status was such that he could INSTALL ABBASID, ABU ABBAS SAFFAH AS THE KHALIFA IN CTESIPHON/MADAIN. HE REMAINED AS THE GOVERNOR of KHORASAN, WHERE ZOROASTRIANS WERE AGAIN PERMITTED TO venerate, FOLLOW THE ORIGINAL FAITH AND COMMUNICATE IN FARSI. THE KHALIFA'S BROTHER MANSUR, ENVIOUS OF HIM, DETERMINED TO HAVE HIM KILLED. BUT WHEN KHALIFA'S UNCLE ABDULLAH REVOLTED, unwary naive VEHZADAN WAS cunningly, craftily ASKED TO QUELL THE REVOLT. HE WAS THEN ORDERED TO REPORT TO CTESIPHON/ MADAIN IN 755. MANSUR CLEVERLY, slyly DEPRIVED HIM OF HIS SWORD, ASKING cannily," IS THAT ABDULLAH'S SWORD? AND THEN PLACING IT UNDER HIS MAT. MANSUR THEN ACCUSED HIM OF BEING AN INFIDEL AND OF MANY OTHER speculated CRIMES. VEHZADAN, resisted and PROTESTED, REMINDing HIM THAT IT WAS HIMSELF, WHO HAD INSTALLED HIM AS the KHALIFA. duplicitous, wily, deceitful, MANSUR TREACHEROUSLY SIGNALED HIS BODYGUARDS TO ENTER AND HAD VEHZADAN KILLED. HIS DISMEMBERED corpse WAS DISRESPECTFULLY, contemptuously , degradingly THROWN INTO THE TIGRIS.

BABAK-E-KHORRAMDIN( ONE WITH THE JOYOUS FAITH), ARMY IN RED

BABAK-E-KHORRAMDIN WAS BORN AT BILALABAD IN ARDEBIL DISTRICT OF AZERBAIJAN IN 795A.D, 150 YEARS AFTER THE NATION HAD BEEN ENSLAVED. HIS FATHER WAS MUTAHAR, A DESCENDANT OF ABU MOSLEM AND MOTHER WAS CALLED MAHRU, THE MOON FACED. BABAK BECAME THE BREAD EARNER OF THE FAMILY AT 12 AFTER HIS FATHER DIED. ONE FATEFUL DAY BROUGHT JAVIDHAN, A KHORRAMDIN FIGHTING THE TAZIAN TO THEIR HUMBLE DWELLING, WHEN HE WAS CAUGHT IN A SNOWSTORM WHILE RETURNING FROM ZANJAN. JAVIDHAN WAS VERY IMPRESSED BY BABAK AND ASKED HIS MOTHER TO PERMIT HIM TO ENTER HIS SERVICE FOR FIFTY DIRHAMS A MONTH. THUS BABAK JOINED THE BAND OF KHORRAMDINS AND STARTED TO TAKE PART IN RAIDS AGAINST THE TAZIAN. WHEN JAVIDHAN WAS KILLED IN 816 A.D, BABAK BECAME THE LEADER OF THE ARMY IN RED . HE ALSO MARRIED THE WIDOW OF JAVIDHAN, BANU KHORRAMDIN. HE FOUGHT AGAINST THE KHALIFA AL MA'MUN. HE DEFEATED MANY OF THE TAZIAN GENERALS, YAHYA IBN MU'ADH( 819-820), ISA IBN MUHAMMAD IBN ABI KHALID( 824-825)AND CAPTURED AHMAD IBN AL JUNAYD IN 825.HE DEFEATED AND KILLED MUHAMMAD IBN HUMAYD IN 829 A.D. HIS INFLUENCE NOW EXTENDED ALL OVER AZERBAIJAN. THE FARSI LANGUAGE COULD BE SPOKEN AGAIN AND THE FIRES WERE LIT ONCE AGAIN IN THE ATESHKADEH. BABAK OPERATED FROM HIS CASTLE AT BADHDH NEAR KALEYBAR. IN 835 KHALIFA MU'TASIM SENT HIS GENERAL AFSHIN AGAINST BABAK .AFSHIN WAS A TRAITOR, A FORMER COMPATRIOT OF BABAK, WHO WAS FAMILIAR WITH BABAK'S STRATEGIES. SLOWLY HE STARTED TO DECIMATE HIS FORCES AND ENCIRCLEd BABAK AT HIS FORTRESS. WHEN BABAK REALIZED HIS SITUATION WAS BECOMING UNTENABLE, HE DECIDED TO SEEK THE HELP OF THE BYZANTINES. HE LEFT THE FORTRESS AND HEADED TOWARDS ARMENIA, WHERE HE WAS TRICKED BY THE TREACHEROUS SAHL SONBAT AND SOLD TO AFSHIN. HE WAS SENT TO KHALIFA MU'TASIM AT SAMARRA

Babak-e-Khorramdin, army in red fortress, Kaleybar. East Azerbailjan. memorial days July.

Babak-e-Khorramdin and the army in red

150 years, end of sovereignty, self-determination, rule, Iran’d mourn,

Before Babak-e-Khorramdin, warrior, patriot, Azerbaijan, was born.

Khorramdins, with unwavering, unvacillating Zoroastrian faith of joy,

Fatherless Babak, the breadwinner, since he was a 12 year old boy,

Fate brought Javidan, rich freedom fighter, Babak’s humble dwelling,

Offered employment, affected, by Babak’s stoic, responsible bearing,

Part with her son, 50 dirhams, monthly, Mahru reluctantly, willing,

Babak was famed for cunning, craftiness, ingenuity, courage, daring.

Ten years, Babak, resolutely fought Tazian til end of Javidan’s life.

Took rebel command with intrepid, Banu Khorramdin, now his wife.

    Self-esteem, self-respect, self-rule had been lost,150 years, a while,

With, new imposed, enforced, name, faith, many, couldn’t reconcile.

Disgruntled, disillusioned flocked from Rey, Khorasan, far away,

One by one, Tazian Generals of Baghdad, were sent Babak’s way.

Keep Babak’s, rejuvenated, reinvigorated, reformed soldiers, bay,

Bring land, again, under Khalifa’s domination, command, sway.

Defeat, destruction, death, disgrace, their fate, uniformly same.

Till treacherous, Afshin, comrade, now traitor, the scene, came.

Familiar with Babak’s tactics, modus operandi, places of hiding,

Formulated meticulous, precise, detailed plan, time, was biding.

Commenced war of attrition, with Khalifa’s enormous resources,

Whittled down, destroyed, decimated, massacred, Babak’s forces.

babak-khorramdin WAS EXECUTED ON 7TH JANUARY of 838 in an unspeakably gruesome, grim. appalling manner. KHALIFA AT FIRST ASKED HIM TO BE CONTRITE, REPENT, SHOW PENITENCE, BEG FORGIVENESS FOR HIS ACTIONS, WHICH BABAK REFUSED TO DO SAYING HE HAD BEEN FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM, LIBERTY, WAS NO VILLAIN OR CRIMINAL. THE EXECUTIONERS THEN CUT OFF HIS HANDS AND FEET. WHEN HE BLED PROFUSELY, HE WIPED BLOOD ON HIS FACE, DEFIANTLY, VALIANTLY, FEARLESSLY , FAMOUSLY SAYING TO KHALIFA," MY FACE IS BLOODLESS PALE BUT NOT FROM FRIGHT." UNDAUNTED, UNAFRAID, BABAK WAS THEN STITCHED INSIDE A COWSKIN THAT SHRANK AS IT DRIED TO CRUSH HIM. HIS REBELLION COST THE KHALIFA HALF A MILLION MEN OVER 23 YEARS. HIS LEGACY WAS THE RE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE FARSI LANGUAGE AMONGST THE POPULACE. WORSHIP STARTED ONCE AGAIN IN THE ATESHKADEH, WHERE FIRES WERE LIT AFTER 150 YEARS. IN JULY-AUGUST OF EVERY YEAR, PEOPLE WEARING SOME RED ATTIRE GATHER AT THE BABAK CASTLE TO REMEMBER THE ARMY IN RED AND BABAK KHORRAMDIN, THE ONE WITH THE JOYOUS FAITH.

Babak’s plea, Roman Emperor Theophilus, reached, too late,

His home, Babak castle, Kaleybar, forced to abandon, vacate.

Relentlessly pursued, to Armenia, reluctantly, Babak’d head,

Vile Sahl Sonbat betrayed him, for bounty, to Afshin, instead.

Placed in irons, triumphantly, to Samarra, before Khalifa, led,

Refused to beg for mercy, “I’m a patriot, not a criminal,” said.

Indescribable barbarity, hands, feet, cut away, profusely bled,

Furiously, Khalifa signalled, executioner to strike off his head.

Babak smeared his face with blood, felt, death, certain, near,

In agony said, “My face is bloodless, pale, but not from fear.”

His body brutally, viciously, hung, head displayed, a warning,

Those, for freedom, liberation, harboured a desire, yearning,

The army in red had painful, regrettable, distressing, ending,

Babak’s fate, even more sorrowful, agonizing, heart rending.

150 years of oppression, domination, Tazian, hadn’t foreseen,

Implausible, inconcievable, Iranians’d remember, they’d been.

Army of slaves, confronting, masters, conquerors, unforeseen,

Babak’s legacy, restoration, a revival of Farsi language, seen.

A brief two decades, people were freed of servitude, bondage,

Without fear, restraint, indignity, shame talk Farsi language.

Babak’s 21 year rebellion cost the Khalifa, half a million men,

    1200 years, the intrepid Babak-e-Khorramdin, isn’t forgotten.

June-July, Babak castle, Kaleybar, people in thousands, seen,

To honour, memory of army in red, martyr, Babak Khorramdin.

    Radman-pur-i-Mahak/ Yaqub al Leyth-e-Saffari. Andimeshk.

His unassuming, undecorated, austere statue, by the roadside, stands,

Wistfully, dismally, watching, pilgrims journey, to his enemy’s lands.

With me rides the noble Derafsh-e-Kaviani, he had proudly, fearlessly said,

After him, the vision, ambition, faith, belief, dream, yearning, all were dead.

MAUSOLEUM OF RADMAN PUR I MAHAK /YAQUB LEIS SAFFARI, DEZFUL.

In the melancholy, derelict tomb of stone, brick, sun baked,

Interred, courageous warrior, before whom, Khalifa quaked.

No garden, trees, fountains, grace, ornament, place of rest,

Of unpretentious, unostentatious, king, with the iron chest.

No lamps, lit, no prayers, for peace, serenity, of soul, read,

For one of bravest, fearless, dauntless, patriots, Iran, bred.

THE ONLY INDIGENOUS PERSIAN KING AFTER THE SASSANIANS

Inspiring awe, admiration, reverence, wonder, is the life story,

Man, who almost reversed, reverted, revoked, path of history.

Two centuries, calamity, catastrophe of Qadiseyeh, had gone,

Radman-pur-i-Mahak, humble, modest, home at Qarnin born.

People’s life, miserable, wretched, squalid, cheerless, forlorn,

Lost dignity, prestige, worth, stature, merit men would mourn.

Painfully aware, woeful, distressful, enslavement of the nation,

Humiliation of Farsi language, the ancient faith’s subjugation.

Radman entered, family’s mundane, coppersmith’s profession,

      Self-rule, self-reliance, self-governance, aim, his confession.

Debased companions, men in arms, robbery, stealing intent,

Radman, by nothing less than liberty, independence, content.

Campaign started, from Khorasan, Tahiriyan, he would expel,

Took in his grasp, Afghanistan, Sistan, where he would dwell.

When agricultural areas, Fars, Ahwaz, Khuzestan, to him fell,

In the uneasy, anxious, Khalifa’s court, rang the alarm bell(s).

A couplet of his triumphs, victories, was in Arabic composed,

“I neither understand nor require Arabic”, he quietly deposed.

All communication shall be, in our own Persian, he proposed,

Not in Arabic, that for centuries, has been enforced, imposed.

Couplet of homage, praise, was in Persian, duly re-composed,

His legacy, faith in Persian language, culture, again reposed.

RADMAN PUR I MAHAK/ YAQUB LEIS SAFFARI WAS BORN IN THE YEAR 840 a.d AT qarnin IN AFGHANISTAN. HE STARTED LIFE in the HUMBLE family profession as a COPPERSMITH AT ZARANJ. at first HE FOUGHT AGAINST THE INVADING TAHIRIYAN OF KHORASAN IN 852. HE BECAME THE local COMMANDER AFTER DISTINGUISHING HIMSELF IN BATTLE AND KILLING A KHORASANI LEADER SLOWLY His men TOOK CONTROL OF all AFGHANISTAN, PAKISTAN AND EASTERN IRAN. HE PROMOTED THE USAGE OF FARSI LANGUAGE INSTEAD OF ARABIC. WHEN A COUPLET WAS COMPOSED IN HONOUR of his valour and exploits IN ARABIC, HE impeccably flawlessly REMARKED that HE NEITHER UNDERSTOOD NOR HAD ANY Utility FOR ARABIC. THE ZOROASTRIAN FAITH WAS PERMITTED, encouraged and renewed. FIRES WERE LIT IN THE ATESHKADEH .THE KHALIFA WAS ALARMED, dismayed, petrified WHEN RADMAN CONQUERED THE BREAD BASKET OF FARS. HE cynically , derisively OFFERED RADMAN hegemony OVER THESE AREAS. RADMAN RETORTED, HE ATE ONLY NAN BREAD AND ONION. HIS SWORD WOULD DECIDE WHERE HE RULED.

THE LAST MARCH OF THE DERAFSH-E-KAVIANI AND SOLDIERS OF AHURAMAZDA.

Fearful, incredulous, Khalifa offered him, Iranian provinces, to rule,

Proudly said,“I’m indebted to my sword, it decides, where, I’ll rule.”

Radman, plate, nan bread, onion, sword, Khalifa, meaningfully sent,

I’m a simple man, this is the modest food, I eat,” curt message, sent.

“Absurd, farcical, lands, you offer us, are our own, not yours to give,

Independence, liberty, see another Ardeshir rule, Ctesiphon, I live.

We’ll write, speak, Farsi, with honour, dignity, Persians of past, live.

To that objective, this army, of 10,000, its life, blood, sworn to give.”

An ironmonger, Kaveh, Derafsh-e-Kaviani, across Arvandrud, had led.

Coppersmith Radman, two centuries, ignominy, slavery, bravely, shed.

Humble coppersmith, free Iran, implausible, incredible, unimaginable,

Persian army, threaten Baghdad, absurd, unbelievable, inconceivable.

Derafsh-e-Kaviani, near Baghdad, Khalifa filled, trepidation, dread,

The flooded marshes, sadly, unrealized, unfulfilled, dream was dead.

Fifty miles,Baghdad, army, weakened by intrigue, divisions, faltered,

Hopes of Derafsh-i-Kaviani, Taj-i-Kiani  were irreversibly shattered.

      Back,Gondishapur, position, irreparable, irredeemable, irretrievable,

Died in 3 years, life as vassal, unendurable, insufferable, intolerable.

Radman reached fifty agonizing miles ruins of Khosrow’s Ctesiphon,

Radman died, heart-broken, anguished, despairing not forty, too soon.

It spelt an end to Ahura Mazda’s, two thousand year old civilization.

In a different, irreversible, unalterable direction, moved the nation.

BY THE YEAR 873 A.D, RADMAN HAD LIBERATED ALL OF IRAN FROM THE TAZIAN. HE NOW AMBITIOUSLY, ZEALOUSLY, ARDENTLY, SINGLE-MINDEDLY SET OUT TO CAPTURE THE OLD PERSIAN SASSANIAN CAPITAL CITY OF CTESIPHON, FROM WHOSE RUINS TAZIAN HAD CONSTRUCTED BAGHDAD. HIS ARMY NUMBERED ONLY 10,000 AND IT WAS DIVIDED, DISUNITED BY FAITH, WHEN HE REACHED 50 MILES FROM CTESIPHON, TAZIAN FLOODED THE MARSHES AND THE ARMY COULD NOT MAKE ANY FURTHER PROGRESS. HE WAS FORCED TO RETREAT TO GUNDISHAPUR, WHERE HE DIED, HEARTBROKEN FROM AN INTESTINAL COLIC ON JUNE 5TH 879. ONCE KAVEH THE IRONMONGER HAD CROSSED THE ARVAND RUD WITH HIS ARMY. THIS TIME IT WAS THE PATRIOT COPPERSMITH, RADMAN PUR I MAHAK, WHO HAD FAMOUSLY SAID, " WITH ME RIDES THE DERAFSH-E-KAVIANI," THE ANCIENT SASSANIAN LEATHER, JEWEL STANDARD BURNT BY THE TAZIAN AT QADISEYEH IN 636 A.D. THE STANDARD WAS FOREVER, PERMANENTLY LOST TO HISTORY 50 MILES FROM KHOSROW'S CTESIPHON. THE SOLDIERS OF AHURAMAZDA NEVER MARCHED AGAIN. THEY WERE LOST IN THE ANNALS OF HISTORY AND THE Memories OF MEN.
