Sandstorm at the Dakhmeh at Yazd

Sandstorm at the Dakhmeh at Yazd

We ascended the hill, sandstorm would brew,

Angry frenzied furious wind sand at us blew.

Storm's fury, violence, strength, minute grew,

Threatening, throw us off path, it raged, blew.

We had antagonized dakhmeh' spirits, I knew,

Valley tranquil, serene, calm, far as crow flew.

I prayed, no contempt, disrespect we'd in view,

We descended as storm miraculously withdrew.

Comment;The sandstorm at the Dakhmeh

In the summer of 2015, we were at Yazd and decided to visit the Dakhmeh on the north side of the city, on the way to the Pir-e-Chak Chak. It was a calm day and the Dakhmeh was on a mountain about 2,000 feet high.

As we started to climb, strangely, inexplicably a sandstorm whipped up straight towards us. Peculiarly, on both sides of the path, it was completely peaceful and placid. I realized that we had disturbed, unsettled the spirits of the Dakhmeh. Quietly in my mind, I prayed that we meant them no disrespect, disregard or discourtesy. Almost immediately, the storm abated, subsided. We visited the Dakhmeh and descended, undisturbed and untroubled.
